The Glock 30 in .45 ACP.

In terms of weapon with practical vocation, Glock does not count any more its followers. First of all for the reliability of its productions, and secondly for the excellence of its safe action system. In addition, the range of variants of Glock pistols is so extensive that everyone can find something to suit their needs, in the caliber of their choice.

As a general rule, combat professionals prefer “full size” Glocks (17, 22, 21…), unconstrained as they are by an imperative of discretion. Agents in civilian clothes or bodyguards prefer the compact Glocks (19 or 23), more stealthy under a jacket. Individuals holding a license to carry a weapon generally tend towards subcompacts (26, 27, 33, etc.), which are easily concealed and optimized for short-range defense.

It is to this last category that belongs the Glock 30 proposed here, the subcompact Gen 4 of the brand in caliber .45 ACP. Of course for the French sports shooter, the carrying of such a weapon on the public highway will be strictly prohibited, but it is the occasion to experiment specialized qualities on the shooting range.

Functioning

The Glock 30 is a launched firing pin pistol, chambered as stated in .45 ACP. In operational terms, it will behave like a single action weapon with no apparent hammer, ready to fire from the first chambered cartridge. Taking into account its vocation, the shooting can of course be done without engaged magazine.

This immediate employability does not come at the expense of safety since all Glocks benefit from the brand’s Safe Action plate. It combines 3 passive sureties:

• A “firing pin safety” which only allows the firing pin to pass when the trigger is pressed.
• A “trigger safety” (the small pedal on the trigger) which prevents its unintentional depression.
• A “drop safety” which prevents the release of the firing pin in the event of the weapon falling.

Glocks can therefore fire in a fraction of a second, without endangering their user during the port.

Characteristics

The supply of this Glock 30 in .45 ACP is ensured by a removable charger with double polymer column. In the version offered on this page, it includes a +1 heel pad allowing the weapon’s capacity to be increased to 10 + 1 shots. If necessary, the Glock 30 will of course be compatible with the larger chargers of its big brothers, the Glock 21 and 41.

We no longer present the polymer carcass having established the bi-material architecture as a standard. That of this Glock 30 is characteristic of Generation 4, compiling the interchangeable grip backs, RTF2 grip texture and fingerprints. Of course, like any double column pistol in .45 ACP the Glock 30 is wide. That said, it is still quite comfortable for a medium sized hand.

Interestingly, unlike the Glock subcompacts in 9×19 mm, .40 S&W or .357 Sig, the model 30 in .45 ACP is entitled to a picatinny rail for the addition of accessories. A privilege that he shares with the 10mm subcompact, the Glock 29.

The front of the slide and frame are both bevelled to aid in holster delivery. The sights together form the “ball in a basket” system characteristic of Glock. They will promote reflex shooting, but can be changed if necessary by something more sporty.

The Glock 30’s barrel measures just under 4 “(96 mm) and features the historic polygonal rifling. It is thus preserved from premature wear, and will accommodate all warheads.

In the end, this Glock 30 is certainly not the best known, but it is wrong. The question to ask yourself will be this: compared to the Glock 19 often presented as the panacea, would you be ready to give up 5 cartridges to switch to .45 ACP with an equal if not less footprint? As far as we are concerned, the answer is yes.
